Bake or Die Mad Scientist

Login-exclusive Hand Cannon class: Mutated Crawler summons and a charged beam you cannot buy with Gold Nuggets.

Mad Scientist Class

Mad Scientist is a login exclusive class in Bake or Die. You cannot purchase it with Gold Nuggets in the lobby Class Shop. You earn it by logging in during the reward window that also included Scavenger in 2026. The class appeared alongside the August 2026 content drops and sits on the calendar rewards track rather than the Nugget wall.

If you are looking for the 600 Nugget shop class that uses a Wizard Staff, that is Wizard. If you are looking for the Mutated Evil Scientist boss in the Evergreen Science Facility who drops the Ray Gun blueprint, that is a map enemy encountered during the Day 6-plus facility run, not a class you can equip. Mad Scientist the class and Mutated Evil Scientist the boss are different objects with similar names. This page covers the login kit only.

Hand Cannon starter and how it compares

You spawn with a Hand Cannon when you equip Mad Scientist. This is not the Revolver that Gunslinger starts with, not the Pump Shotgun that Bounty Hunter uses, and not the Kaboom Cannon on Bombastica. The Hand Cannon fires charged energy projectiles that scale with the class perk tree, and the class is built around managing that charge cycle while also deploying Mutated Crawler summons.

The cannon works differently from ballistic guns. It fires a charged projectile that deals energy damage, and the class perks scale that charge into higher output. Read the weapons tier list for how energy guns rank against the Gunsmith rifle and pistol ladder. The Hand Cannon is not a prize on the Gunsmith wall; it is a class identity you cannot sell.

Keep the Hand Cannon. Selling it to fund a Gunsmith revolver is how you lose the class fantasy on a kit you did not pay Nuggets for. If you want Revolvers and an SMG, buy Gunslinger at 65 Nuggets. If you want the Wizard Staff fantasy, buy Wizard at 600 Nuggets. Mad Scientist is the Hand Cannon class, and the Mutated Crawlers are the bonus layer on top of that identity.

Mutated Crawler summons and how they compare to Necromancer

The second pillar of the kit is Mutated Crawler summons. Similar to how Necromancer absorbs souls from the dead to spawn allied undead, Mad Scientist deploys Mutated Crawlers as a mobile secondary front line. These are the same mutated spiders that the Mutated Evil Scientist boss also fields during the Evergreen Science Facility fight.

Crawler economy is the skill. Bank them for packed nights rather than dropping one at a lone runner in the parking lot. They peel door space the same way an Auto Turret does, except they move and they come from a class perk instead of a blueprint craft. A full crawler deployment on a Night 5 funnel is a sight that makes the generator look easy.

Necromancer at 300 Gold Nuggets is the other summoner class. Compare before you assume one is strictly better: Necromancer costs Nuggets and its Undead Staff scales differently from the Hand Cannon. Mad Scientist is free after login but locks you out of the Nugget shop progression path. If you want the army fantasy and you have 300 Nuggets saved, Necromancer is the purchasable option that sits in A-tier on the class rankings.

Charged beam blast and when to use it

Level 3 unlocks the charged beam blast — a high-damage output that rewards standing still during a charge cycle. This is the ceiling of the kit for single-target damage. Blood Moon nights (every five) and Food Factory bosses are when the charge matters most. A full beam into a packed crowd at the right moment is the difference between a cleared funnel and a generator breach.

The beam competes with movement. Kiting runners while charging a beam is a plan that fails at the first corner. Position before you charge, or use Mutated Crawlers to hold the lane while you complete the cycle. A Gunslinger teammate covers the mobile targets while you finish the stationary clump.

What this class is not

Mad Scientist is not a Nugget purchase. If a tier list or guide ranks it against Bombastica or Wizard as if they are competing for the same 300–600 Nugget slot, that guide is confusing the boss drop with the login class. The class is free on a calendar track; it is not an alternative to farming Nuggets for the shop progression.

Mad Scientist is not Mutated Evil Scientist. The boss lives in the Evergreen Science Facility (28 March 2026 confirmed), drops the Ray Gun blueprint and the Reconstructor Machine blueprint, and is a Day 6-plus fight. The class is a login reward with a Hand Cannon and crawler summons. Different object, different unlock, different use.

Mad Scientist is not mandatory. It is a quality-of-life unlock on a track that also gave Scavenger. If you miss the login window, you cannot buy it retroactively. Save Nuggets for Gunslinger and Bombastica instead.

How to play nights with Mad Scientist

Day: bake. The Hand Cannon does not bake pies and the crawlers do not grind corpses. Cash funds the gun ladder and turret ammo the same as every other class. Mad Scientist is not a reason to skip the Pie Recipes loop or the daytime collection order.

Night: Hand Cannon on the funnel, Mutated Crawlers holding space, charged beam for clumps or bosses. The class rewards knowing when to fire and when to hold the charge. A full-auto approach wastes the level 3 ceiling.

Squad: a second damage dealer with mobile summons. Doctor at 75 Nuggets still heals better. Technician still turret-covers the door better. Mad Scientist is a strong secondary on a squad that already has those basics covered.

When Mad Scientist is the wrong choice

You skipped Gunslinger and you only own the login kit. The 65 Nugget S-tier Revolver build is still correct as a first purchase. You want the staff fantasy: that is Wizard at 600 Nuggets, not the Hand Cannon login class. You want Necromancer’s soul army: buy it at 300 Nuggets instead of waiting for a calendar window.

The Hand Cannon and Mutated Crawlers are a strong kit on the login track. They are not a replacement for the shop classes that form the actual progression spine of Bake or Die. Play the class you unlocked, level it to 3, enjoy the charged beam, but do not treat a calendar exclusive as a reason to stop farming Nuggets for Bombastica.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers for diner nights, classes, and pie sells.

How do I unlock Mad Scientist?

Mad Scientist is a login exclusive class. It cannot be purchased with Gold Nuggets. Log in during the reward window to claim it.

What does Mad Scientist start with?

You spawn with a Hand Cannon, an energy weapon that scales with the class perk tree. The level 3 charged beam blast is the damage ceiling.

What are Mutated Crawlers?

Allied spider summons similar to Necromancer's undead army. They hold door space and absorb hits. The Mutated Evil Scientist boss in the Evergreen Science Facility also fields these in his fight.

Is Mad Scientist better than Necromancer?

They are different unlocks. Necromancer costs 300 Gold Nuggets and uses the Undead Staff. Mad Scientist is login-exclusive with a Hand Cannon and crawlers. If you want the summoner path and have 300 Nuggets, buy Necromancer.

Is Mad Scientist the same as the Mutated Evil Scientist boss?

No. The Mutated Evil Scientist is a map boss in Evergreen Science Facility who drops the Ray Gun blueprint. Mad Scientist is a login-exclusive class with a Hand Cannon. Different object entirely.

Should I skip other classes if I have Mad Scientist?

No. The Nugget progression spine is Juggernaut 30, Gunslinger 65, Bombastica 250. Mad Scientist is a bonus kit on a login track, not a replacement for shop class progression.
