How to Play Bake or Die
Controls, the diner-and-sunrise loop, station order, blueprint rescues, and how 32 players share Cash.
Bake or Die is a 32-player online co-op Roblox game: diner by day, zombie waves at night, sunrise burns what you failed to shoot. This page is the loop, not the first-hour shopping list. If you have not sold a pie yet, read Getting Started first, then come back for controls, stations, exploration, and squad jobs.
Controls and interaction
On keyboard, move with WASD, look with the mouse, and use the standard Roblox interact key (usually E or click) to pick up corpses, deposit them in the grinder, start the mixer, pull pies from the oven, and place them on the shelf. Sprint with Shift when you are hauling bodies. On gamepad, pick up with the face button used for interact, deposit with the left trigger, and activate the mixer with the confirm button. Open the in-game badge scroll from the left HUD — those milestones pay Nuggets and are easy to ignore.
You cannot switch class mid-run. Class is chosen in the lobby and brings a starter tool. Weapons, bandages, and building pieces are bought with Cash after you load in. If a prompt does nothing, you are holding the wrong item or the station is already busy; drop the corpse or wait out the oven.
Day and night loop
Night: zombies walk toward the diner. You kill them, hold a funnel, and keep the generator alive. You do not bake during a breach unless someone else is covering the door.
Sunrise: leftover undead burn. Daytime is short. Run this order every morning and do not mix jobs until the current one is done:
- Collect corpses before they spoil. Spoiled meat is Cash you will never see.
- Grind every body in the shredder. Read the zombie head before the kill so you know whether you are about to get Zombie Meat, Yeast, Carrots, or Explosive Meat.
- Bake six-slot pies. One Savory Meat slot is $11; six slots are $55. Start the oven early because it is the only slow machine.
- Craft — Auto Turret first once you have the NPC blueprint, then quality-of-life benches.
- Shop, explore, rescue NPCs. Guns at the Gunsmith, bandages at the General Store, trapped people in houses for blueprints.
Repair walls after shopping, immediately before night, so daytime traffic does not reopen a hole you just patched. Pie Recipes explains why a half-empty tin is a wasted oven cycle. Survive Nights is the combat checklist once you understand this order.
Stations in the diner
The diner is four machines plus a power problem:
- Grinder turns corpses into ingredients. Butcher’s chainsaw can grind in the field later; on a fresh account you still walk bodies home.
- Mixer holds six slots. Premium ingredients (Explosive Meat, Carrots, Yeast, Cheese, Radioactive Rat Meat, eggs) belong in full tins, not panic singles.
- Oven cooks. Baker’s Cutting Board and bake-speed perks exist so this step does not eat the whole day.
- Shelf sells. A pie in your inventory at sunrise does not pay.
- Generator in the back room (yellow high-voltage sign) powers lights and turrets. Old Batteries from houses recharge it if zombies chew it down.
Spike machines and boarded windows are part of the same building. Funnel one entrance so the grinder stays reachable after the wave.
Exploring and saving people
Daytime is also a map game. Dilapidated houses hide chests (sometimes Nuggets) and trapped NPCs. Rescuing people is how you get craft blueprints, including Auto Turret. Do not start a long desert run until corpses are ground and at least one pie is baking — exploration after spoil is a dead run.
Later unlocks sit on this same explore pass: sewers around Day 11 (Cheese, Radioactive Rat Meat, Biggie Cheese), Evergreen Science Facility behind a fence code (Mad Scientist, Ray Gun, Reconstructor, day-skip). Those fights belong on Beat Bosses. Your job here is to treat every rescue as a blueprint, not a side quest.
Co-op on a 32-player server
Servers hold 32 players. Cash from pies is shared. Gold Nuggets are not. If three people each buy a Revolver while the oven is idle, the squad is poorer and still hungry. Split roles out loud:
- One corpse runner / grinder
- One baker on mixer and oven
- One shopper who owns the Gunsmith buy order (dual Revolvers, Butcher knife, M1 Garand, Sawed-Off, SMG $1,250)
- One repair / turret ammo
Doctor (75 Nuggets) is the squad heal pick. Bombastica (250) is wave clear. Gunslinger (65) is the cheap combat main. Gladiator cannot pick up guns — do not hand them the SMG. Necromancer summons help on later nights. Full kits: class roster.
Invite a friend from the lobby when you can; the referral is +10 Nuggets on the Nuggets route. Do not expect promo codes to skip that grind.
How you play Bake or Die is a schedule, not a genre label. Collect, grind, bake, craft, shop, repair — then one door at night. The 32-player diner only works when Cash is treated as a team bank and Nuggets as a private class budget. If your squad argues about guns while corpses rot, you are not playing the loop yet. Pin this order, send new players to Getting Started, and open Survive Nights when the next Blood Moon is one night away.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for diner nights, classes, and pie sells.
What is the daytime priority in Bake or Die?
Collect corpses before they spoil, grind, bake six-slot pies, craft, then shop, explore, and rescue NPCs. Repair walls last, right before night. Details in Getting Started and Pie Recipes.
How many players can join a Bake or Die server?
Servers hold 32 players in online co-op. Cash from pies is shared; Gold Nuggets stay on your account. Coordinate Gunsmith buys so two people are not purchasing the same Revolver.
How do I get blueprints?
Rescue trapped NPCs in dilapidated houses during the day. Auto Turret is the first blueprint worth crafting. Bosses later drop Ray Gun and Reconstructor plans — see Beat Bosses.
Do leftover zombies stay after sunrise?
No. Sunrise burns remaining undead. Use that window to collect bodies, not to chase desert stragglers. Night defense itself is on Survive Nights.
Can I change class during a run?
No. Pick a class in the lobby. Unlock more with Nuggets between runs. Beginner path: Juggernaut 30, Gunslinger 65, Bombastica 250, listed on the class roster.
