Bake or Die Crafting Haul Update
September 2026 crafting rework changes everything at the bench: new UI, ingredient tracking, metal costs, and a cleaner workflow.
Big Bakers shipped a Crafting Haul Update on 1 September 2026 that reworked the entire crafting system from the ground up. This is the most significant core-mechanic change since the game launched on 5 April 2025. If you last played before September 2026, the bench you knew is not the bench you will use today. This page covers what changed, what costs, and how to adapt your day-night order.
The diner still runs: 32-player servers, pie baking, zombie waves, Gold Nuggets for classes, and no code redemption. What changed is how you spend metal, how you track ingredients, and how recipes look on the new UI. Read this before you run the bench for Auto Turrets, Ray Guns, or anything you crafted on muscle memory in August.
What the rework actually changed
The original crafting system had issues players reported throughout 2026: confusing ingredient stacks, unclear recipe outputs, and a UI that did not communicate what you were about to build. The September 2026 rework addressed all three.
The new crafting UI now shows ingredient slots more clearly, tracks what you have versus what a recipe needs, and flags missing components before you start a craft. If you have ever started an Auto Turret only to discover you were two Metal short, the new system is designed to prevent that mid-craft panic.
Ingredient tracking now runs in real time. Previous builds cached stash counts and could desync if you dropped items during a server hiccup. The September patch ties counts directly to the server state, which means fewer moments where the bench only sees part of your materials.
Recipe categories were reorganised. Blueprint table crafts (Auto Turret, Ray Gun, Reconstructor, Wrench) sit in their own tab. Class-unlocked crafts (Advanced Auto Turret, Kaboom Cannon pies) stay with the class system. The old one-page scroll that mixed basic metal crafts with boss drops is gone.
New metal costs and what scaled
Community reports from the week of 1 September 2026 put the revised Auto Turret craft cost around 8 Metal (down from the 10 Metal reported earlier). This is a meaningful reduction if you are equipping multiple turrets across a 32-player server.
The Advanced Auto Turret on Technician Level 3 still costs 5 Wood + 15 Metal, but the interface now shows the full requirement upfront instead of prompting mid-craft.
Ray Gun components (Barrel, Core, Gage, Handle) still need to be found on the map and assembled at the blueprint table. The September rework did not change the drop locations or the boss that gates the Mutated Scientist’s version. Check Blueprints for the full sourcing list.
Other revised costs from the community window: Wrench (2 May 2026 Bank / Vault) is now easier to track in the new UI. Auto Mixer (Biggie Cheese community drop) is now visible in the recipe tab.
Day order with the new system
The daytime loop on How to Play does not change fundamentally. Collect corpses, grind, bake six-slot pies, then craft. The new tracking just makes the last step less guesswork.
One new habit worth forming: check the crafting menu before you leave the diner. The updated UI shows what you have, what recipes are available, and what is still missing. If an Auto Turret needs 8 Metal and you are sitting on 6, grab two more crates before you head to the sewers.
What did not change
The crafting rework is a UI and economy tweak, not a new class or boss. Bombastica still uses explosive pies as cannon ammo. Necromancer still summons an army. Wizard at 600 Nuggets is still the prestige staff kit added in the July 2026 window.
No new codes were added. Bake or Die still has no redemption system. Auto Turrets and the Ray Gun still require the same NPC rescues and boss kills to unlock.
What to do on your next run
Open the crafting menu and let the new UI show you what you have. Compare your metal and component stash against the recipes you care about. The crafting rework is the kind of update that only feels small until you play without it.
